Pupil Premium and Sports Premium

Pupil Premium Statement

The pupil premium gives schools extra funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils from reception to year 6

It was  introduced as a fund of £625 million in April 2011 to give schools £400 per year for:

  • every child currently registered as eligible for free school meals
  • children who have been looked after for 6 months or longer

From April 2012, pupil premium funding was also extended to:

  • all children eligible for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years PPG provides funding for two Government priorities:

PPG does not form part of the Individual Schools Budget (ISB) and is specifically for disadvantaged pupils. It also provides funding for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and the children of service personnel.

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools for supporting more disadvantaged pupils to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as all other children. It is additional funding allocated to schools to accelerate progress and raise attainment. There are three categories of children who qualify for pupil premium:

Children who are eligible for free school meals (FSM)

Looked after children

Armed forces children

The school currently has a small number of children who are eligible for pupil premium, which is below the national and local average.

We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who are disadvantaged ,we also recognize that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered for,or qualify for free school meals.

At St John the Evangelist Catholic Primary School we are committed to helping every child and their family achieve their very best, by providing a high quality and well-resourced learning environment. We also ensure that all teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils and we direct support, both academic and pastoral, appropriately.
